Ever since introducing Smartuki in June of last year, it’s been one of our most popular stories here at The Kneeslider. For those of you who have been following along, you’ll know it was originally built over in England by Z Cars and Peter Bee who thought a 180hp Suzuki GSX-R1000 engine might be a good fit for the little Smart. He was right and he had quite a bit of fun with the little screamer. After all, any Smart car that turns 12.4 second quarter miles and tops out at 132mph will get your attention. But Peter, wanted to move on to another project which meant selling Smartuki. Andreas, over on Sweden, was beginning to work on a similar project of his own when the Smartuki came up for sale. He thought having a head start with a complete car would be a good idea so we helped get those two together and the next thing you know, Smartuki took the trip to a new workshop where Andreas promptly tore the whole car apart.
Smartuki has been rebuilt with a whole range of new and improved parts and this past weekend, she was fired up for the first time. Smartuki is reborn! Andreas reports a few of the usual tweaks and tightenings are still necessary but the major parts all work. We’ll give you a full report on the rebuild and let you know what was changed and how it all turned out. It’s pretty neat. Stay tuned!
