Another custom builder just popped up on our radar, it’s REDZ Motorcycle Company over in The Netherlands. Remember Bratstyle? Well REDZ builds custom bikes along those lines, based on the Yamaha SR400/SR500/TW200, the Kawasaki W400/W650 and other small displacement Japanese bikes. They also offer all of the parts you might need to put one of these together yourself.
Their new catalog is available for download and it is really cool, seats, risers, fenders, gauges, lights, pipes, just about anything you might need to do it yourself, either all at once or a little at a time.
I’m really liking this style of Japanese custom, it’s different from the standard fare you see everywhere. If you’re over in Europe and thinking about building a bike like this, REDZ should be on your list, nice looking bikes and parts. Actually, they ship worldwide, so you can order from anywhere and with the dollar being very strong right now, it buys a lot. Check ’em out.
UPDATE: There seems to be a question about similarities between REDZ motorcycles and those from Easyriders in Japan, I received another question today. It appears that REDZ builds motorcycles in the style of those from Japan using parts from Easyriders and other companies in Japan. The photos used in their catalog and shown here are marked in their catalog as copyright by Nitroheads which is the trademark name for the whole series of parts from Easyriders, they are used for illustrative purposes and used with permission. Unless I hear otherwise, that should answer the questions some seem to have.

These are pretty neat . I like seeing the alternative to the status quo of customs on the street .

I like the nitrohead, that is what a motorcycle is supposed to look like.

The Yamaha SR400/SR500 is a natural for this. In at least some of its configurations it needs littel more than stripping some extras to look really nice/retro.

Sweet, we need more bikes like this in the US. Finally Suzuki is answering the need with the TU250, though it’s a 250 but it looks better than the NightHawk and Rebel:

Maybe REDZ needs to make a cafe racer kit for this bike too…

For those who can’t afford a Sportster – and wouldn’t buy one even if they had the money.
Great style.

Good idea , cheap fun , looks cool , and looks like a hoot to ride around the city 🙂

Very cool…
But I have a question: Why is it that ALL the Custom Japanese bikes are built around w-650’s and SR’s? Why no CB’s?
I’ve been doing a few CB350/360 and 400/450’s lately, never mind the 750’s..
Besides that, I think it’s time for our 400Triple to emerge…

Mmm…TW200 bits, neat. Looking forward to that catalog.
Thank you, todd, for bringing the TU250 to my attention since Suzuki did not. I was at my local Suzuki dealer only two weeks ago asking after small-to-medium standards.
He said he could not help me. WTF?
PS. Suzuki’s website lists the TU’s final drive as “N/A”. Odd that.

Dimitri,
VD-Classic was already covered here. Deus was covered as I note above. If you know of others like easyriders in Japan, just point them out. I mention Bratstyle in the article above and included a link to my earlier article on them.
My intention is to give lots of bike shops coverage. If you have a favorite, great. The world is a big place and there’s always room for one more. If only one shop can build in a particular style the market would be tiny. Relax.

Here is one you may not have covered.

Hi Paul,
I am very relaxed by the way. I just find it irritating if people claim something that is not theirs. This style of motorcycle was also not invented by easyriders.jp but they were the first to commercially cater for it. As a lot of things this was invented on the streets of Tokyo inspired by the 60’s Triumphs and Norton and BSA’s.
dimitri says
Need I say more:
Have a good look at how they name their motorcycle collection.
Nitrohead ripped off from a particular model range from Easyriders
Godspeed500 I really does sound familiar doesn’t it. Goodspeed500 remember. You were the first to cover our story on the internet Paul!!
Everyone deserves to make a buck, a living whatever. Fair enough. But do not make ridiculous claims and take the easy way out copy pasting.
No fantasy, no originality…no nothing!
Geoff says
Stop whining about who was first and enjoy the bikes.
Paul says
Great looking. To bad its for people that are small in nature. Anyone near 6′ would look out of place on one of those.

Anyone read Custom Burning? Go to their site to see many more links to shops that have been around for years.
