If you're not ready to spend the money on another motorcycle right now or if your garage is getting a little crowded, maybe you should downsize a little and build a model. You can get one just to display, but many models available now are really accurate replications of the real thing, just on a smaller scale and if you go through the process of building one, you'll get a pretty good introduction to how they are designed and go together. You can even get engine models with clear cases where all of the internal parts move, so you and anyone else that looks at it can see how everything interrelates and works together to make the wonder of motorcycles actually happen.
Build a MotoGP racer or Superbike or a classic from long ago
Most of us are not going to get our hands on a MotoGP bike, but you can build a model of one and they look very cool. Maybe you love the old CB750s and having a nice model brings back fond memories. There are some spectacular models of those available at 1/4 scale and really detailed.
Motorcycle models, well, actually, models of all kinds, hold a special attraction to many of us. Sometimes they are a sort of "mini-me" for your full size bike out in the garage or maybe they're a reminder of one you used to have and let get away or they might be one you would like to have, but for one reason or another don't have right now.
If you spend a little while browsing through these ebay listings, you'll notice a wide range of scales and level of complexity and, of course, price. Because of the hands-on nature of building models, a young person interested in mechanical things could really get a feel for how all of the parts connect and maybe build an interest and curiosity about the real thing. If you want high end and detailed models, be sure to check out the Pocher models, especially the 1/4 scale Ducati.
Did you build models when you were younger?
You might have spent more than a few of your younger years assembling models of all sorts and some of what you see here are those very same models in their original boxes, though many of the newer ones are often far more detailed and realistic than the ones we had to work with.
While putting this section together, several times I found myself going through everything to see what's available and I found myself smiling a lot. If you're a hands on guy or girl, you might want to pick one up. If you have a son or daughter and you want to get them away from the computer or phone for a while, buy them a model and show them how everything goes together. If it doesn't appeal to them, put it together yourself, you'll get a kick out of it. In fact, if you haven't built a model in a long time, you might find yourself with a whole new hobby.
