Motorcycle Design Awards 2005

By Paul Crowe

Yamaha MT-OSWe mentioned the Ducati Hypermotard the other day, winning the overall design award from the Motorcycle Design Association after being the winner in the open category. Some of the other winners were interesting, too.

In the Supersports category, the winner was the Yamaha R6, runner up was the Motoczysz C1.

Open category winner, Ducati Hypermotard, runner up was a tie between the Bimota Delirio and the BMW HP2 with equal votes.

Junior Category (up to 200cc) was the Aprilia RS125, runner up was the Sinbar e-Solex.

Scooter winner Peugeot Geopolis and runner up – Yamaha Vox

Concept bike winner was Yamaha MT-OS and runners up – Honda DN-01 / Victory Vision with equal votes

Seeing the R6 beat the Motoczysz C1 is interesting. The Sinbar e-Solex, runner up in the junior category, is an odd little thing, I believe it’s an electric version of the Solex motor bicycle. The Yamaha MT-OS is a nice looking bike and it seems to have slipped under the radar a bit since the two runners up, the Honda DN-01 and the Victory Vision, have garnered a lot more press.

Seeing what the design pros believe to be the standout motorcycles can be puzzling at times, how do they think compared to the rest of us? Well, there you have it, now you know.
