Most powerful diesel

By Paul Crowe

CrankshaftI have to mention engines again since I saw this. This turbo diesel comes in multiple versions from 6 to 14 cylinders and is a bit larger than most. Bore 38 inches, stroke 98 inches, each cylinder displaces 111,143 cubic inches. Each cylinder produces 7780 horsepower. The pictures are amazing, the photo on the right here shows a section of the crankshaft and that little green thing is a man bending over. These are used to power supertankers and container ships and are extremely efficient engines, they’re just huge. I know, some of you may think I’ve spent a lot of time on engines recently but this just shows the extreme upper end of the internal combustion engine range.
