How to Paint Your Motorcycle

By Paul Crowe

After learning about building a chopper chassis from the DVD we pointed out the other day, another one of the “black arts” of building is the all important step of painting your motorcycle. Painting is something filled with a lot of myth and misconceptions but it pretty much boils down to a lack of knowledge. Things you don’t understand often seem mysterious until you learn how and you find out “Hey, this isn’t so hard!”

JoAnn Bortles, the author of How to Paint Your Motorcycle, owns Crazy Horse Painting in Waxhaw, North Carolina. She does a lot of the high end painting you see on many show choppers that end up on the magazine covers. From basic prep to finish work, this book goes through the process, step by step, taking the mystery away and giving you that “I can do it!” attitude, perhaps saving you a ton of money on your next paint job and definitely adding to your skills.

Like anything else, you have to learn and practice, nothing worthwhile happens instantly, but if you are thinking of repainting your current bike or doing the paint on your new build, this book will show you what you need to know.

Remember, too, this isn’t just for choppers, it’s about painting your motorcycle, … sportbike, touring bike, whatever you have. Get this, learn to paint and next thing you know all of your buddies will be asking how much you charge, … think about it.
