If there is any question that Honda makes one helluva lot of motorcycles, this story from a couple of days ago will remove all doubt.
The Tokyo-based company expects to sell 12 million two wheelers in the year ending March 2008 in Asia, excluding Japan and China, Honda President and Chief Executive Takeo Fukui told a group of journalists in Jakarta. In the year ended in March 2005, the company sold 8 million two wheelers in the region.
Honda forecasts a total market of 18.3 million two wheelers in 2005, 20.53 million in 2006 and 22.4 million units in 2007 in the region. The production expansion will come in Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan and India, the company said.
18 million? 22 million? Geez!
Doug says
Cheers to the line workers, first-level, & middle managers to keep quality high even when pumping out those kind of numbers.
Hondas products aren’t my personal favorite, but their R&D and production execution are admirable.
Is a measure of “character” in a motorcycle part of the design or is character a by-product of not reaching Honda’s level of refinement & execution ? probably both.
