Harley has been testing out a tire and wheel protection program in 4 states and things have been working out pretty well, so they’re expanding to 20 more states. The program covers the costs associated with the repair or replacement of tires and wheels, including labor and taxes, towing, lodging and meal reimbursement. If you’re buying a new Harley or just a set of tires or wheels, be sure to check it out because you have to sign up right then.
Tires and wheels and the associated repairs are no cheap date so this sounds like a good idea. It’s certainly worth asking about next time you’re at the dealer.
Details follow:
Beginning October 1, 2009, Harley-Davidson Financial Services has expanded its Tire & Wheel Protection program from the initial four pilot program states to an additional 20 states, upping the total to 24.
Available exclusively through participating Harley-Davidson dealers, the H-D Wheel & Tire Protection program covers the costs associated with the repair or replacement of tires and wheels, including labor and taxes, towing, lodging and meal reimbursement. All motorcycle tires are covered—both the original and any replacements—for the duration of coverage, with no maximum occurrences and no deductible. Coverage periods from one to seven years are available. H-D Tire & Wheel Protection must be purchased at the time you purchase your motorcycle or at the time you purchase new tires or wheels from an authorized Harley-Davidson dealership.
Joining the current Tire & Wheel Protection pilot states of New York, Colorado, Florida and Utah are Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and West Virginia.

I wonder what the premium on this Tire Insurence costs? Here in Michigan the Pot Holes are terrible, This plan must be expensive!

Wow. HD has more ways to make money than anyone can think of. It may be a good plan for some. Most of the people you see riding around can’t change their oil or adjust a clutch so what do you do if you have a flat. However if you are a HOG member then you are at least offered pickup and towing so at that point one would only be picking up the tire repair IF they have a problem. I don’t belong to any of this so i just deal with things myself. I am quite sure this will be popular with the insecure or the program would never be expanded.

Wow Steve, you’re quite the man. Live off the land and everything! True it is another way to make money. That’s what good companies do in a down economy. For those of us that don’t like to deal with things ourselves if that means sitting along the freeway with tire tools and our balancing machine, then its a value-added service. I have a friend with a FXBD 2007 that has cashed in 3 times. Twice at Sturgis. He’s the poster child around here! If you don’t want in the program, don’t! If it sounds like it would give you peace of mind then buy in! Unlike the health care debate, you have a choice!

My local Harley dealer had a deal this year where if you bought a new bike they would put tires on it for as long as you owned the bike. That was a hellava deal for those that got in on it. I go through at least one tire a year due to road hazard. Lucky me two new rear tires this year do to junk on the road. It certainly might be worth checking into for me.
