Harley Davidson has introduced the new HD models for 2006. The release is pretty much new paint as far as I can tell. They have a “new” Night Rod that looks like a flat black Street Rod. Not a bad bike, mind you, but when they say new it’s stretching the definition of the word. A couple of other models are pretty much the same idea, a little different combination of accessories and paint and a new name.
Harley Davidson, and lots of other companies, do the BNG or “bold new graphcs” route or new paint color as new design route to new models. Do I need to mention V-max? Car companies usually try to differentiate things a bit more but they have more sheet metal to play with, a motorcycle is a little tougher. What a motorcycle company calls a new model, a car company would call a GS or LX or some other trim level that is just a different mix of options. Harley had a truly new model when it introduced the V-Rod, all of the Rod variations since then are just that, variations. But, if it works, you run with it.

HDI reworked the Dyna series. Stiffer new frames, beefier forks, new six speed trannys and standard fuel injection. All this, and the price of the base FXD only went up $200. Oh, yeah – they’re offering some new colors, too! Scoot safe, PJ.
