The website at Erik Buell Racing is beginning to come together and as the pages are going up, we can get a general outline of what will be offered.
I noticed engine and chassis prep will be available, beginning January 1st, 2010, for the 1125 in 135 RWHP and 175 RWHP versions, plus there is a listing for an 1190 Euro spec, 185 RWHP version. An 1190 Euro Spec? That’s interesting.
In February, Design Analysis and Machining Services will come online and in June, Lab Durability Testing services will be added.
I’m sure this schedule is a bit tentative but it gives us a better idea of what Erik and his team will actually be doing. There is also an online parts catalog that will be going up on January 5th for the 1125, XB and XBRR.
Track ready race bikes will also go on sale, including an 1190RR. There’s no photo of the 1190RR yet, hmm, …
With the services and parts they’ll be offering, it looks like the foundation of a good business. If you are a current Buell owner and you think some extra performance is what you need, you’ll soon have a great resource ready to help you out. Go get ’em, Erik.

And so it begins! If Erik is really this close to a 1190 Euro bike, his former company must have been thinking WSBK??? WTF is wrong with HD?

But doesn’t racing in production based series require bikes to be in production?
DMG may have turned a blind eye, but will other series?
This just doesn’t make much sense….

Good luck to Erik & EBR in 2010 racing! It will be interesting to compare his engine services/swapout schedule to the offerings from Yoshimura.

Kind of like WSBK allowing prototype (pre-production) bikes to race? Racing rules are a funny business.

There is strong support for Buells in some of the European Twins classes, which basically have unlimited rules. Erik will certainly sell some 1190s there. In addition, an RR with a bone-stock 1125 engine would make an awesome track-day bike at about 360 pounds wet minus fuel. Julius Ilmberger put almost 8000 km on a similar bike on his way to a third place in the European Twins Championship, without ever having the bottom end apart.

It seems the Europeons have better taste than us. The Buells have long had a strong following outside the U.S.. I believe the 1125 R will be allowed to continue racing until it is superceded by the manufacturer. Give it time, the Fat Lady aint singing yet.

Keep in mind the only thing preventing the 1190RR from being a production bike is a stroke of the pen from Harley.
If they’d let him, I’m sure Erik Buell would make us a production version of that bike. So keep the pressure on them to make that small gesture and allow us to have our Amercan Superbike.

I’d love to see the folks over at Victory pick up the Buell 1125. Sure we’d miss the XB series, but just as the original Buell RR/RS1200 were replaced by the XBs, the 1125s could be THE new era of the American Sportbike. Of course the HD team probably won’t let this happen

God bless Erik Buell!
