A few days ago I mentioned the Electra Cruiser which looks pretty interesting but doesn’t appear to be a performance bike in any way. Sometimes you think more along the lines of electric scooters like the Vectrix when someone says battery powered. The other day some folks were talking about the new electric powered Sting Ray bicycle, very cool, if you’re twelve years old. Well some folks have different ideas.
NEDRA, the the National Electric Drag Racing Association, likes to go a little faster, they have the smokey burnout mindset, the 9 second quarter mile mentality and with bikes like KillaCycle, ReVolt and Kawashocki, they show that electric doesn’t have to mean slow. I have to admit, the idea of a quiet burnout or silent drag race makes my brain hurt, it just doesn’t fit into my image of the way the world works, but things are changing. It’s like the first time I saw the import drags and their front tires were making the smokey burnouts, makes you go, “huh?” Looks like there’s a pretty active racing community built around the battery drags. Check out the NEDRA site, it’s neat.
