We’ve written this scooter up before, it’s a 1961 Cushman with a Harley Sportster 1200cc engine in place of the little single the factory mounted in there. What is there to say? It’s very cool, looks great, lots of awards in shows, goes over 100 mph and you’ll be the only guy in town that has one.

Why not check to see if any other Cushman scooters are for sale now, and maybe another interesting one has popped up.

A dude had one here years ago. Had the 1000cc Sporty motor in it. He called it a “Sportsman”. Had a jockey shift, and he said it was terrifying on a regular basis.

Wow…. Scooter wheels, suspension designed for 8 horsepower, frame ditto, and 100 mph?
Sounds just about right!

I’m going to assume (hope?) the builder made some modifications to absorb the extra stress applied by the big V-Twin. If not, this could be an even more exciting ride. Still looks like a lot of fun and I’d ride it with a big smile on my face.

It looks like the frame has been beefed up a bit, certainly it has better wheels and tires than the original wheelbarrow items, better brakes for sure, but it still has the wimpy original male-slider forks (they look like about 25 mm) and hardtail. It would be a blast to ride but might get a little twitchy above 50. Still, it looks like a great build; anyone who didn’t know what a Cushman was would think it was factory.

Reminds me of what the guy said who stuffed a 454 into his jeep: “Too much is just about enough”.
Reminded again of why I like 250cc dirt bikes. This is insane which is probably all right, for him.

I worked over a little Chinese scooter. It did wheelies off the lights and topped out in the mid seventies. People are right…it got twitchy over fifty because of the little wheels and frame flex.

I remember seeing this scooter at the Cushman Nationals a couple of times. Definitely a quality build. I also have a Cushman hybrid- my ’64 Eagle with ’80 1000cc Ironhead Sportster power. I call it “CushHog”!
