Arctic Cat’s diesel ATV which began production in September of last year for European customers is slated for U.S. dealers this March. The diesel ATV, which has been approved for use with 6 kinds of diesel fuel, including biodiesel, has a 686cc 2 cylinder engine and has 30 percent better fuel economy than comparable gasoline models.
The diesel ATV was developed in conjunction with Roush Industries for the military market and crossover to the civilian market was a natural for industrial and agricultural use. This move is similar to the Bulldog diesel motorcycle which was first built for the military and then introduced to the civilian market.
Diesel has made a lot of strides over the past year with the Audi diesel racers winning easily in the LeMans series and a diesel streamliner setting a new diesel speed record at Bonneville. We’ve been following diesel developments for a long time since we first wrote about the Thunder Star 1200 almost two years ago.
