If you keep track of what motorcycles are selling for, not asking prices, what they actually sold for, you learn a lot. Look at the motorcycles in the photo above selected from recent sales on eBay. All of them are really nice looking bikes, they’re not parts bikes or projects, these are beautiful bikes you can start immediately and ride. Now, look at the prices.
Decisions, decisions
If someone is in the market for an electric-pedal-assist bicycle, they’re likely well aware of the price, easily over $3000 to start and even as much as $8000 or more with some manufacturers.
Maybe you don’t have to choose
In the market for a motorcycle, but you find those e-bikes kind of interesting? The same money that buys a mid-range e-bicycle will buy a beautiful used ZX11 or Sportster, even less money buys that GB500 or XS650. No contest, right? Then again, for the price of a NEW motorcycle you could have an e-bicycle AND a used ZX11 or GB500. Which price you start your comparison from makes a big difference, doesn’t it? It’s something to think about.
UPDATE: It looks like the sale fell thru on the ZX11 because it’s listed again. Wonderful bike for someone. I owned one of these for many years and it was a great motorcycle, very fast and comfortable.

Or you could just buy the GB and resell it in San Francisco for $8000, buy the Ninja and take a small vacation with the wife.

Well, there’s that, and some won’t want to spend any money at all, or they’ll do the GB as you suggest, make the profit and then keep it.
Options exist no matter what your situation or desires. I try to look for alternatives when someone thinks there are no choices. There usually are.
