Harley Davidson has issued a recall for some of the 2009 FXDB, FXDC, FXDF, AND FXDL models for a problem with a defective weld. This is not a large recall, nevertheless, if your bike is one of those affected, you should be aware. Please read below for further details.
Manufacturer: Harley Davidson
Model Year: 2009
Models affected: FXDB, FXDC, FXDF, AND FXDL
NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V625000
Potential Units Affected: 349
Problem: Harley-Davidson is recalling 349 model year 2009 FXDB, FXDC, FXDF, and FXDL motorcycles. These motorcycles have a fuel tank vent tube assembly, part no. 27389-04A, which may have been produced with a defective ultrasonic weld on the anti-slosh valve. If the valve separates and the bike is tipped over, it may leak fuel. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
Corrective Action: Dealers will inspect the fuel vent tube assembly and, if necessary, replace it. The recall is expected to begin on or about December 8, 2008. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson at 1-414-343-4056.
Harley Rider says
This is unfortunate, especially because I just spent last weekend installing some of these new parts in my Harley. Looks like I have another weekend of work ahead of me!
