If the invitation says “black tie” and you still insist on riding, this would be a great choice, a 1948 Vincent Series B Rapide that has all the right stuff and presents itself very well. If modern motorcycles leave you wanting something more, let your eyes wander over the lines and curves of of a bike designed to put everything on display. The engine is, to my eye, one of the best looking motorcycle engines ever, with performance that, in its day, made it the envy of every other marque.
This one has a few modifications to improve performance and reliability, so you can ride it with confidence without the need of a well stocked chase vehicle to get you home. Every now and then, someone parts with one of these and if you’re one of those with deep enough pockets and a place in your garage reserved for something really special, here’s your chance.
This auction has ended, but you can check to see if there are any Vincent Motorcycles for sale on eBay right now.

One 65k already and reserve not met? Vincents were always expensive, but if I was looking for a daily driver with a classic vibe, I would really look for a low miles CB or SR. Good 60s styling, and unlike the british bikes, ultra reliable 🙂

Dude, its a vincent.

Even if I could afford one I wouldn’t buy it. The miles would pile up because I wouldn’t be able to stay off it.

At the Crawford Auto Museum (Cleveland, OH), they had a couple of Vincents in their collection. One was a Black Lightning and the other was the fully-faired 1952 Black Prince. I first saw them when I was 11-or-12 years old and went mad for them. Well, to make a long lust story short, I never became a millionaire and had a marriage, house, kids and now grandkids. But, I still covet the Black Prince that was born the same year I was.
