Ducati Desmosedici Wiring Harness RecallDucati has issued a recall for 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR motorcycles for a main wiring harness problem. Please read the details below.

Manufacturer: Ducati
Model Year: 2008
Models affected: Desmosedici RR
NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V160000
Potential Units Affected: 396
Problem: Ducati is recalling 396 model year 2008 Desmosedici RR motorcycles. The main wiring harness may be routed incorrectly which could possibly result in damage to the motorcycle and a potential hazard to the rider. Any damage to the harness may lead to loss of functionality of the motorcycle system or an unexpected loss of engine performance, and thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Corrective Action: Dealers will check, reposition and fasten the main wiring harness to the frame free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during May 2009. To locate your nearest authorized Ducati dealer, you may go to www.ducatiusa.com and select the "dealer locator" or you may call toll free at 800-231-6696.

They’ve had wiring harness problems on other ‘08 bikes, right?

Thanks! I’ll get that looked at right away.

LOL

I’d say the risk of crash due to damage of the wire harness is relatively small . . . after all, it’s pretty hard to crash when the bike is on a pedestal in your display area.

Hah, yeh I’ll make sure to take my Desmosedici down to the dealership right away and while im at it I can drop my unicorn off at his job working for Baskin Robbins…. wait a second, I lied. He works for Dairy Queen.

FWIW. A friend of mine bought a “leftover” Desmosedici RR, so I asked him if the dealer had said anything about the wiring harmess recall. What the dealer said was, when the bike was initially started (at the dealership) the “check engine” light came on, so they called Ducati… Ducati (North America??) said the problem was in some sort of a wiring “sub-harness”, they sent the dealer a replacement part, and this fixed things, or, at least, the “check engine” light went out. Now, I don’t know if these problems are related, but to me, it looks like there may be two separate problems (mis-routed wiring harness, *and* bad “sub-harness.”) And yes…it seems kind of “sad” that after paying $72,000, (or $52,000) for a motorcycle, this sort of “stuff” still happens.

So, ... what do YOU think?
