Buell Motorcycle Company, currently operating from 5 separate properties, plans to consolidate operations under one roof in a new building with 163,000 square feet of total space. Construction should start at the end of May with occupancy in the first half of 2010.
In addition to the building consolidation, they plan to cut 10 of their 200 employees to adjust for reduced motorcycle production.
The moves are aimed at cutting costs and improving efficiency to ensure the long term health of the company.

has anyone here ever toured their facilities? i’ve heard it’s pretty cool to see how they do everything.
I love that the company only has 200 employees.
What is “everything”? They assemble bins of components into a motorcycle. Very little automation, which is kind of nice to see, but not real interesting.
Why should they have more than 200 folks?? They leverage many souls at HD as well…..to boot they are strictly development (one main building) and assembly (the other main building).
Want to see an interesting plant, tour the Kansas City HD operation – very vertical, they actually make their own parts from raw materials. Something kind of special in a world of outsourcing to see some folks actually stamping out the tanks they paint and assemble.
Looks like they may be tooling up to build Soft Tails in East Troy…..ET being non-Union still, I believe….
Investing in a new building is a good sign that they will continue into the future.
A bit off topic but…I sure wish they’d do a sport tour version of the 1125. I’d love a powerful belt driven V twin with comfortable ergo’s and some cargo hauling capability.
Moving to…China!
Potential market there is huge!
