There's a new diesel powered motorcycle on the market, though only in the Netherlands for the moment, it's the Track T-800CDI. Made in the Netherlands, it's powered by a turbocharged 800cc 3 cylinder diesel with 45 horsepower and 74 foot pounds of torque. It has a centrifugal clutch and a CVT with shaft drive. It holds almost 6 gallons of diesel fuel.

The engine is ready for biodiesel right from the factory and gives the Track a 0-60 of 3.75 seconds and a 108 mph top speed.

It must be something about the folks over in the Netherlands, they build some pretty interesting diesel bikes, like the Thunder Star 1200 which, unfortunately, has not seen production, but this one looks like it has some potential. There's no price listed from what I could see and how soon it will be sold outside the Netherlands is not firm.

The Bulldog Diesel is also available over here in the US, sort of, but most of their output is going straight to the military.

Thanks for the tip, Pim!

Actually the listprice (in Holland) is € 17500.– which is somewhat cheaper as the new Yamaha R1 for example.

Very cool! I wonder how far that 6-gallon tank of diesel will get you? It would be great for touring, I’m sure.

I can’t help but think some cool minimalist tins would make it an even nicer looking bike, the naked view is so nice looking it shouldn’t be hidden.

lets see…from the site this gets 40 km/liter so 6 gallons would get 564 miles down the road. Wow, just thinking about that distance without stoping makes my butt hurt.
I want one.
Peace.

gimme gimme gimme

cool Idea, but I don’t think I’d fork over 23 grand over for one when I could get an absolutely loaded BMW 1200GS for less. If it was 10 grand, I would be making room in my garage for one for summer of 2010

that is pretty and practical, nice engineering it seems pretty well targeted for whatever specific function its intended for a low stress practical reliable workhorse

I am not going to buy any new motorcycle until I can get one like this. Diesel is the way . No longer stupid heavy, and slow, diesel makes more sense than complex hybrids, or not ready for prime time electrics. If any of you manufacturing types who sell in the USA are listening, hear this: I WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANY OF MY MONEY UNTIL YOU PRODUCE SOMETHING THAT IS WORTH INVESTING IN. LIPSTICK ON THE PIG WILL NOT DO.

I forwarded you a link to this bike four(?) years ago. More recently another link about the Envirofit 2-stroke direct injection retrofit kit.

Is the submittal page working?

Diesels are definitly becoming more popular for many reasons. I think its a good looking bike. If I could afford it, I’d buy one.

Ry_Trapp0 03.16.09 at 6:36 pm

that thing is just plain cool, i want one!!!

but that clutch must have pretty light weights in it, this bike being a diesel.

A huge advantage to this bike would appear to be the availability of diesel fuel around the world, even in remote areas.

Sweet – I want one – think I’ll go youtube diesel bikes and see what they sound like….

QrazyQat 03.17.09 at 1:56 pm

That’s kinda expensive — at least for me — but it’s a very tidy looking bike.

mark 03.18.09 at 3:08 pm

I’d love to have one of these if it had a manual gearbox. No CVT for me, thank you very much.

JSH 03.19.09 at 7:55 am

You can’t just take the list price in the Netherlands and convert Euros to Dollars to get a price in the US. Holland is one of the most expensive places in the world to buy a motorcycle.

Seems like a military application would be the natural target for this bike. Apparently, tf transporting a different kind of fuel just for the bikes (everything else runs on diesel) is a big logistics problem for the armies of the world so this would streamline things quite a bit.
