I have never driven a motorcycle, four wheeler, snowmobile, or anything like that. All I have ever driven is cars and very fast ones. My last car was a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo MR and it was fast and fun. The Can Am Spyder is even more fast and fun. First time taking it on the road after buying it I drove it in a pretty heavy rain with no problems. No its not a motorcycle, but I work in an ER and see what happen to people on motorcycles when they get hit. The Spyder has a lot of lighting and is much more visable to other drivers. I can do burn outs and take turns fast. I can't get gas without drawing attention. My only suggestion is that if you are planning on taking it for a long trip...get a cruise control. Other then that my only suggestion is to take one for a test ride.

A guy came on the freeway the WRONG way and hit me and my Harley headon. Lost my left leg and thought that was it for riding. Got my prosthesis and now a year later have a Spyder and lovin' it. Auto tranny (can speed shift), reverse and 990 Rotax will dump most Harleys from the git go. AND the price is half the cost of a Harley trike.

I grew up dirt bike racing, owned a 3 wheeler, (not sure how I lived through that stage), and snowmobile in the winter. Once I joined the Navy, I have owned a FZR 600, Daytona 955, and a highly customized roadstar warrior with a metzler 300 tire on the rear. I test drove this while my roadstar was being serviced and waiting for the wife to pick me up, and I was hooked. I bought a used one a week later. This is now my daily commuter to/from work rain or shine. It rides like a snowmobile, has sportbike performance, (0-60 in less than 5 sec), and is a fairly unique ride at this point. It turns more heads than my custom warrior, and anyone can drive it. My 60 year old mom was able to get on and go, and I even read a post where a guy in a wheel chair was able to ride one daily and strap his chair on the side of the bike! I definately don't think this is the coolest bike out there, but until you have ridden one, you shouldn't knock it. Its like being able to ride a snowmobile anywhere, anytime! I don't think you can actually compare this ride to a motorcycle except for the open air aspect and single back tire. And although I will never get the same feeling as you do when you lay down hard into a corner on a sport bike, the relaxed ride is so much better than my cruiser. Especially in heavy traffic....no clutch and the ability to idle forward without my hands on the handlebars is a godsend. I think that any product that gets more people into the motorcycle world is a great additon, even if it is another red headed stepchild. Remember that some of those redheads grew up to be downright hotties.

I rode one. It was enough fun that I bought one. Not at all like a motorcycle (except for the open air)but a hoot to ride. It is quick off the line and stable at speed. I've taken it to the SoCal mountain twisties (San Deigo)and I find this ride as exciting as the other 46 motorcycles I've owned. It's another riding skill to learn and master. I love the reverse.
