As mentioned before, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio is one of those events you really should attend if you have any interest in motorcycles beyond the latest and greatest factory offerings. I've already pointed out a couple of bikes, the Doublewhiz and the Munch Mammut replica, but there were thousands of motorcycles at the track, some in the various show areas and displays and some rare finds were just ridden in and parked among the most common daily riders. You needed to keep your eyes open because you might see something really interesting almost anywhere.

Here are just a few bikes of interest in no particular order:

Triumph Cafe Racer
A very nice Triumph Cafe Racer

Triton
One of many Tritons

Triton
Another Triton, this one a 1959 T-120 engine in a 1959 featherbed frame.

Yamaton
Who says you have to stay British? How about a Yamaton, Yamaha power in a Norton frame.

Prince Vincent and Rickman Interceptor
A beautiful black Prince Vincent next to a Rickman Interceptor.

Honda CB350 Four
Easy to walk right by, a Honda CB350 Four, the rare little cousin of the CB750 and CB550. Behind it is a GB500 in chrome.

Plus, there was one fellow from Michigan who I saw ride in but didn't get my camera around fast enough to photo, he was riding a very well done Harley Sportster transformed into a cafe racer and he was dressed in the perfect ton up riding gear. Couldn't find him later.

These are only a few, but you get the idea. If these bikes look interesting, mark your calendar for next year.

I love vintage bike days at Mid Ohio. I try to make it up there every year. It’s a pretty short jaunt from Columbus.

Half the fun is seeing what the people rode in on, let alone all the vintage bikes screaming around the track.

Is that Maico triple real!?!? or is it a homemade thing?

What is the black bike behind the red and white MV? Anybody know? http://home.comcast.net/~dmornes/IMG_6853.jpg

Anybody know if that’s a wankel engine?

tallsteve 07.30.08 at 5:58 pm

FREEMAN – it’s not a wankel, it’s a boxer twin like a BMW, although I’m not sure it is a BM

WRXr 07.30.08 at 7:18 pm

Freeman-

It has the Zundapp logo on the tank. I would say it is a KS601.

FREEMAN 07.30.08 at 9:08 pm

Hey, i think you’re right, WRXr. Thanks. I think that bike is f-ing sexy.

Don 07.31.08 at 9:12 am

Nice bikes. I heard that there was Don Castro’s factory Triumph flat tracker there. Any pix of that?

Great motorcycle porn in this thread. What is the deal with that maico?!
