Boss Hoss Advantage wheelchair accessible trike

Boss Hoss is coming out with the Advantage Trike for the wheelchair bound individual who has the desire to ride one of their big V8 powered trikes. A wheelchair lift is hidden in the rear of the trike and all controls are hand operated.

There aren't many trikes offered specifically for wheelchair use, the Martin Conquest, based on a BMW, is one that comes to mind, but this is the only one in the U.S. that I'm aware of.

From Boss Hoss:

Boss Hoss Cycles, manufacturer of America’s ultimate V8 powered cycles, has teamed up with V-8 Performance, Inc., creators of the Hossfly, to produce the Boss Hoss Advantage Trike, the first wheelchair accessible trike that is tailored specifically to the disabled rider. The new Advantage Trikes are scheduled for release in September 2008.

The trike has been designed with a wheelchair lift built into the chassis, which is hidden by the fiberglass truck-style trike body. All the controls of the trike are hand operable to accommodate individuals that do not have, or have use of, their legs. The Advantage Trike was designed with a simple aftermarket conversion to the Boss Hoss Truck trike, and can be purchased exclusively through local authorized Boss Hoss dealers.

“We want our riders to know that it's not their disabilities, but their abilities that count,” says Rad Hunsley, president and COO of Boss Hoss. “We have riders with a variety of handicaps that love our trikes. We are now offering those that do not have use of their legs the freedom to ride!”

Very cool!

I do know that there is a shop in the US that designs bikes for people with no or missing legs.

Any idea what the shop is called Azzy? :-)

I like the idea of this (despite disliking trikes)!

Awesome! Disabilities only exist in the mind. I use to race and knew two racers with only one leg each. Another that was paralyzed from the waiste down.

Looks not that good but I guess it’s perfect for the audience it’s targeted for.

I am in a power chair and have limited use of my legs; however, due to a stroke, I only have use of my left hand. Can this, or another trike, be adapted so that I can enter the trike from behind in, and drive the trike from, my power chair and use an ordinary steering wheel to steer the trike? How much should expect to pay for such a conversion? Could I get by with anything less than an 8-cylinder engine?

I am a 62 year old paraplegic. I am now using a power wheelchair. I have been a paraplegic for over 40 years. I also now am a double amputee above the knees. I have some questions about the boss hoss advantage wheelchair accessible trike. I have a trike that was made for me but I can no longer get on and off due to shoulder problems.
1. what kind of motor does the trike have
2. is the motor water or air cooled
3. can it haul someone in addition to operator
4. what does the title show as make. My trike shows constructed trike and insurance is expensive because it does not have a brand name
5.would there be a place for taking supplies along for a trip such as wheelchair battery charger and c-pap machine
6, what kind of money could I be looking at for a unit like this
7. Is there a dealer closer to me than Knoxville, TN——-I live in Ohio
8. Is the trike all automatic and reverse

Would it be possible to purchase the ” advantage wheelchair accessible”portion separate from buying the entire bike so it could be retro fitted to my stock bike? If so, what would it include.

Thanks
Ron

Your trike is the baddest looking accessible vehicle out there. I have been a Quad since 94 and use a powerchair. lucky to be working at Sun H-D and being around all those great bikes but would love to go riding with my Friends .
