I just got a 250cc china bike and I have to say the quality is better then the jap bike and two thirds the price. It has a water cooled engine compared to the air cooled jap bikes, and looks better. It runs strong and I have had no problems. I think this is the next wave of the china bikes and I have to say when it's parked next to the same class jap bike, it blows it away in the looks and quality. No it's not a crouch rocket, it's a 250cc and beats the honda, yamaha, and kawasaki hands down on looks in the same class. The parts are easy to find if you need them as most match up with the jap bikes, those that don't can be found on many internet sites. I'm going to change out the sproket to lower the engine rpm's it tops out now at 80 mph, but is screaming.... down the hill of course. I get 65 mpg now and think I will get over 75 after the sproket change, I'll have to let you know.

To be sure lots of people got burned by the first wave of Chinese motorcycles coming through North America but business and manufacturing is about evolution.

Not everyone will want to buy a 2,000USD bike for lots of reasons. Maybe they think it's "Chinese" or maybe it's not a "real" bike unless it's Orange and 20,000 dollars.

The people who would buy a Chinese bike at this stage are largely looking for inexpensive, fun and convenient transportation. Different strokes for different folks.

I remember a time when comments about poor quality Japanese products were legitimate. And I remember those comments about poor Japanese quality continuing during the time when Corollas and Civics were actually far better built than Vegas and Pintos.

How many of China's ~100 motorcycle manufacturers are on that path? How far along the path are they?

The Keeway brand of motorcycles are actually quite high quality. They're Chinese, and they make Yamaha Viragos, V-Moto Milans, etc. I wet up a couple of the Keeway branded Milan scooters this morning, and the quality is quite nice. They're also one hell of a lot cheaper than a V-Moto Milan.
