Indy Mile Flat Track Motorcycle Race Returns in 2008

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on 12/20/2007

in Motorcycle Racing

Flat Track RacingThe Indy Mile will run again at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in 2008, the night before the Indianapolis GP race. The Indy Mile hasn't run since 1999 and what a perfect time to bring it back when so many will be in attendance for the MotoGP.

Flat Track is about as American as it gets in motorcycle racing yet it doesn't get the coverage of many other racing formats nor is it as popular. That seems to be the reason Harley Davidson is releasing their new XR1200 in Europe and other countries around the world and not in the U.S., but, maybe they were thinking ahead and maybe they knew the Indy Mile was coming back. Wouldn't the return of the Indy Mile be the perfect reason to bring out the XR1200 here? If Harley isn't already thinking along these lines, they should be.

If H-D doesn’t, well, here’s hoping that some others will. And that the ruling bodies don’t mess it up.

went to the louisville mile twice. most spectacular event I ever saw. 100,000+ bikes in the lot, terrific racing. at the second year, it rained, they begged the audience for a grader operator to level the track, racing went to 1:00am ! been to a lot of roadraces from canada to california, but none were as exciting as flat track. those guys have BALLS!

This is a multi person reply.
“Zipidachimp” I also saw the Lou. Ky. races. Did you see the “Death Rider” thrill show featuring the Dr. Dynamite explosion, the team van getting KO’d by the guy on the CB450 Honda, in his Elvis flared pants??
My friends and I have raced on the Mile @
Indy. It was 1973 & I ko’d a jaw tooth, chewing gum, before my heat race. I think I remember being a bit concerned about the speed etc.
To everyone else, if you want to see a fast & furious show, this is the place. They used to do 145 mph, NOT kph, when they ran there years ago. I recall Teddy Newton throwing the tread off his BSA on the front stretch, & did a 125 mph tank slapper. He did save it, & no body drilled him from behind !! My two young sons couldn’t believe how fast they went at the finish line. We sat there for a heat race & they were just a loud bluuuuuuuurrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yee Haa, Mile Flatrackin’
See ya there !! Vroooooommmm !!!!!

I raced the Indy mile June 1997″ Fathers Day ” i took my dad for the first time .Some super fuel guy mixed a tank for my FT’R to drink.
The motor southed out in turn #1,with a flume of smoke in the grandstand.
The GN race is a site to behold.
Everyone was happy to see the return 2008.
