I just bought a 1990 Kawasaki ZR 550 with 15000 actual miles, in perfect original condition with the traditional green/black kawasaki colors. I was trying to resell it when a 'honest' potential buyer told me "this is a prime bike to restore to 'showroom' condition and keep it as a collector bike, that they are rare and desirable. I would love to learn more about this bike and it's 'true' potential as a collectable, if any. Anyone have accurate knowledge about it's collectable nature and value?? Thank you for any and all feedback!!

Growing up, dad always had a motorcycle. He's a smallish guy, therefore the motorcycle isn't exceptionally big. Found my love for things mechanical on that motorcycle. Really basic, no fairing, wooden brakes and not all that powereful, considering. I learnt to ride it when I was a teenager. Rode that motorcycle before I ever rode anything else. Then left South Africa for the UK. As I started looking for my own motorcycle to ride in England, started noticing the same model bike as my dad's being quite sought after and it turns out to be a bit of a collectable. Knowing my love for the thing, he said he'll leave it for me after he passes on. It has now reached collectable status which no one could ever foresee. I don't think I'll sell it either, not because it's a collectable, but because it's not a bad bike to learn on and occasionally enjoy. He still attends rally's on it. Oh, and the bike....a 1977 Honda CB400F four cylinder. A red one!

Classic Bikes??

Well I have one, all of the written mags for the Kawassaki KZ750 B1 didn't do it justice. They all had one negative thing or another, maybe due to it being a twin in an inline four world?

Well whatever as my daughter will say, it is mine and runs like a champ, it costs me maybe $300, bucks canuck a season to ride in maintenace, and I never have to worry about theft or vandals, most everyone doesn't even know it is a twin until they look close and few do.

This is the way I like it, maybe after I get it really finished, with new paint and rechroming things it will be different, but until then it is my classic and people can keep saying it was never a good bike and I can keep buying them for $500 to $800 dollars in good runnning condition.
