Feet Forward Motorcycle Designs
May 24th, 2006 at 8:15 am by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"
A comment on The Kneeslider a couple of weeks ago from Ace King, points to his own site where he’s designing a “feet forward” or recumbent motorcycle powered by a Honda VF750. It’s an interesting design with double A-arm front suspension, a seat from an Acura, a GSX-R radiator, and a lot of unique pieces created by him specifically for this project. He’s trying to design a single seat practical commuter vehicle and his site shows a few sketches he’s made of possible body shells. He has a 1:12 scale mockup of the completed motorcycle minus the body and he’s going to have his own design contest to see if someone can come up with a design with just the right look.
His site navigation is a little confusing but if you dig around a bit, you’ll see Ace has been building some interesting vehicles since he was just a little guy and this Project VF design looks very interesting.

I actually kind of like the design! I can’t believe I didn’t see the logical extension to peddle bikes and for someone to make this. awesome.
as has been brough up before, I would be a little concerned about the height. sitting this low, I might be tempted to put a sand dune flag on it =)
does the heat from the engine blow directly into the crotch? that could get annoying in the summer heat. it looks like the air scoop may keep that from happening though.
future enhancements could include passenger and luggage i’m sure.

i think Gurney’s gator has been brought up on this site before but it does seem alot simplier a design then this one. and you would still be leaning forward a bit on it, but this one you sit back much like in a car.

Many thanks for the kind review. Thanks also for adding my website and a photo of my scale model. but I’d appreciate it if you would replace the photo shown with a non-cropped verson. Altering the photo to remove my site name and address makes it easy for some to misuse the photo, plus makes it tougher for interested people to find my site.

Is a recumbant potentially more aerodynamically efficient? I believe so, if so then there is potential to design faster and more efficient bikes!!
