Advertising the New Vmax
March 30th, 2006 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"
One of our readers left a great suggestion on our Vmax ideas post. All of the comments are usually directed toward technical issues or styling but Ahmed J, suggested someone for Mr Max’s introductory advertising campaign. “Get Samuel L. Jackson to dress up like the Movie Pulp Fiction and Describe the New V-Max at release…..” That is absolutely perfect!
Just think, the room is all black and dimly lit, strategically placed soft spotlights on Jackson and the Vmax, Jackson, all dressed in his black suit, eyes wide and glaring, gun hanging by his side, slowly strolls around the new Vmax, camera angle is low, his voice rising … “And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance…” the camera pans around the pair, Vmax and Jackson, …” and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.” He moves toward the Vmax … “And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.” He hits the starter, the Vmax fires up, he revs the engine once, … fade to black, … Vmax logo on screen.
Yamaha won’t be able to build them fast enough.

The real problem, of course, is there is exactly zero chance they’ll do an ad like this.

or he could do the speech, and as he raises the gun to fire he gets mowed down in a blast of noise and blur of motion. once the cameraman recovers, we see rossi astride a v-max. he looks down at jackson, says “wow. I was still riding 125s when that movie was out. that may have been cool when the old vmax was in town but you’ll have to do better now…” the engine fires and just before riding away rossi looks down and says “I knew I had a bigger gun than you.” fade to black.

I never understood the “streetfighter” name. It’s dorky.
This bike will sell itself without that kind of advertsiing money….I can’t be the only one that would think that advertising would detract.

I was thinking Clint Eastwood in the ad with a new “line” that states pure straight line power in the “quarter” that is unbeatable.
When you think about it though the power/speed that pounds all other purely production bikes (short range/Quarter mile) will be advertisment enough…word gets out quick.
I am not a seasoned racer (a bit slow off the line) and have raced a VERY seasoned racer on a GX 1100 (stripped down, even no lights and lighter than stock alloy rims) and he beats me but just barely. I think a guy who can get my stock 2001 Vmax off the line would take him half the time.
So if the power/speed is there, not maybe there, THERE, to stomp the sportbikes again…check books opened!!
