Twin Harley Powered Sundoulos Sportstar
January 27th, 2006 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"
The Sportstar just redefined the entire concept of motorcycle powered cars. Look at this! Originally designed as a production racer to compete against Corvettes and Vipers with power from a twin turbo 10,000rpm 960hp V8, the project was put on hold when Grand-Am rules changed and moved toward an emphasis on Daytona prototypes. The car became obsolete as a racer.
Barry Watkins, not one accept defeat, assembled a team of builders and fabricators and came up with the idea of powering the car with twin Harleys. That’s right, not Harley twins but twin Harleys, as in two engines!
It’s easy to see the extraordinary design and build quality of this car and it’s hard to summarize in a few words, so the best I can do is refer you to the website and have you read through the story and check out all of the photos. Amazing!

nice turn signals flowing into the “seam” going down the other side of the fender.

looks nice, but if you’re taking on the (realtively) high weight, uncertain reliability, high cost and (again, relatively) low power of the big twins, why not put them on display?

Very nice design. 1700 lbs curb weight is quite a lot. Harley engines seem a strange choice for this project and the side-by-side arrangement must create non-trivial power losses. The Hotrodhawg is obviously more in character with Harley power and probably could be modified to fit two, one in front of the other sharing a common crankshaft.

Turbo charged V-8 Bussa!! Now that would be something that goes as fast as it looks! Stunning car-if only I had money.

The Sundoulos is a type of sport car design that American auto designers and manufactures’ seem to have an inability to grasp. They keep offering the same old, cold, rehashed over designs. The current trend is retro-designs now, because they cannot come up with anything fresh and new. This car is fresh, bold, and in your face. I love the touches of elegance on the front end. The rear end is all bout shoving it your face. Kinda like giving the cars your pass by the “MOON”…It says “Eat This!” loud and clear.
I can almost see this car with a type of shortened, chromed, Auburn boat-tail like windscreen on it. Just the right mixes of simple, classly touches, that say “Check this out!.” along with the proper engine to give it that,”I’ve just been Sucker Punched” feeling as you hit the accelerator and expose your hiney to the public behind you… I wish I could get one of these….I know some guys who need a comeupance badly!
