A Real Monster V Twin Motorcycle

January 8th, 2006 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

Leonhardt V twinThere’s been a continuous move towards larger and larger V Twins. The chopper guys have been building large displacement engines and 2000cc bikes are available from the factory. Well, suppose you just cut to the chase and go big, REALLY big. You take a 9 cylinder radial aero engine, remove 2 cylinders and make a motorcycle engine. Then you build a suitably large bike to wrap around all of that iron. The end result, or at least the planned future result, will be a 6728cc V twin motorcycle, that’s 410 cubic inches for those of you without a calculator handy. I figure torque should not be a problem. Might vibrate a bit and you would need one helluva starter motor.

Clemens Leonhardt, a German engineer, is building this King Kong of V twins. He’s using tires from the landing gear of a Boeing 767. The engine will have about 350 horsepower, the bike should weigh 870 pounds. He’s planning on making it road legal and offering a number of them for sale. Hmm …

V-twin! I have had dreams and visions of such
a motorcycle. The only thing differant is that
it is lighter and able to be used off road.
Its amazing how some minds accross the world
can think the same thing. Good luck I do hope you
    complete your project.
    Sincerely!
