The original Beetle was inexpensive, but they sold by the truckload, making building them economically realistic. I choose to live in hope. If they build it, I will come. Can I get a diesel? I've been a (air cooled) VW fan all my like but VW's design and lack of quality of late have not inspired me. The GX3 would turn me back on to VW. I could do without the steamroller rear tire, imagine how much that would cost to replace! And on such a light vehicle it is way too overkill and looks d**n ugly to boot. As long as it comes with a top of some kind I'd consider buying it as a back-up to my daily tranportation - my motorcycle. This reminds me when VW debuted the Concept 1, later to become the New Beetle. VW claimed they would sell the hard top at $11,000 and the convertible at $13,000. Do you really think VW will sell the GX3 for only $17,000 when its nearest competitor is the $45,000 Lotus Elise? -todd I like it.
