20 thousand rpm V8 engine dyno run

November 9th, 2005 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

So with all of the talk about the new Yamaha R6 able to turn 17,500rpm from its 600cc powerplant you start to wonder just how tight you can turn a piston engine. Well, as I mentioned in my post about the R6, Formula 1 engines get up around 20k and here is a video of a dyno run that shows just that. Sounds pretty cool, too.

Our 100cc kart engines will do 20k easy, if they only do 18.5k we worry about the gearing. I have no video or audio, but they sound lovely.

i didn’t see any recent info. on their sites, but it is still interesting reading about the bike they were working on. 22000 rpm

moto gp needs to remain at the latest rules change so that Drysdale, Proton, Moto Czysz, etc. can mix it up with the major OEMs
