2006 Yamaha R6

September 29th, 2005 at 8:56 am by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

2006 Yamaha R6Yamaha brought out all of their new 2006 models, among them, the 2006 Yamaha R6. We don’t see the need to review each model every company brings out, they have whole websites for that, but we like to highlight a few distinctive features here and there. The feature about the R6 you’ve probably heard about is the redline, 17,500 rpm. That is one amazing redline. It used to be the only place you saw that sort of thing was around the Formula 1 races where they are getting into the 20k range but that’s super high dollar exotica, this is a street bike you can buy at your local dealer for just over $9,000. Wow.

I thought this was cool 30 seconds ago, but then i saw the suzuki stratosphere showbike. while the r6 entered my land of fantasy high tech bikes when i saw it a while ago, everything has been blocked out by a new retro-futureistic katana inspired bike with no shortage of cylinders…. but returning to the real world, the r6 or new triumph 675 will do nicely.

  2. Wolv Says:

My CBR250RR redlines at 19,500, but anyway..

  3. Curt Says:

You may want to change the mention of the 17,500rpm redline since the tach is not acurate. Dyno results have shown that it actually is closer to 16,200. That ends any possibility of me ever buying a Yamaha. That’s a shame.

  4. tyson Says:

i just bought one and its amazing

  5. chris Says:

the new r6 is the sickist bike out, yall punks with the cbr’s and the gsxr’s need to get on a real bike, and if you dont beleve me just look at that thing you got sittin in the corner of your garage nothin but garbage

  6. Brandon Says:

I own the 50th annaversary R6 and I’m not here to dog on other bikes but even though true the dyno testing result indicate an initial false advertisement on yamaha’s part, the bike is still incredible with absolutely no complaints except for one little one I can’t put a helmet under the rear seat and feel comfortable leaving it there :( other than that this bike is sick and truely a revoulutionary badass and wave for the future in street agression!

  7. gerry Says:

i just got a black 06 r6 and it is insane the power is insane who cares about the tach so you might lose 1000rpm im still ripping by 1000’s all the time

  8. gerry Says:

oh and just beat a 05 gsxr 750 race bike this weekend and this guy has been racing pro for two years the new r6 is awesome a little sluggish below 6000 butafter that hang on and hang on even tighter when you hit about 10500 its a hole nother boost that just makes you slam it in the next gear its amazing

  9. Jake Says:

You tell em Gerry. I just bought the 06 Blur R6 and this is a bad ass bike. My brother has an 04 R1 and he advised me not to get a 600cc bike. Once he rode mine, he took that statement back. Not that I care what bike anyone buys, but by far and away, the R6 is the hottest looking bike in their class.

  10. Alex Says:

Hey everyone, i don’t know what you guys are talking about but i just seen a video of a guy hitting 17,400rpm on the 06 R6!!

  11. raven Says:

just got new r6 run it in and im getting a tapping sound gets louder the faster you go anyone got the same problem?

  12. proze Says:

If the redline bothers you so much that you dont even consider buying the new r6, then your an idoit. Sure the tac is innacurate, especially in the higher revs. About a 19% correction i believe at 14,5. But like i was saying, the bike carves the best out of every middleweight offered to date. It also is a 600 which means you have to wring its neck to get everything out of it. which is a true 600 to me. its the closest thing to riding a tz motor, and thats enough said.

  13. Jed Says:

just bought my blu r6 about 2 weeks ago. its a head turner. chicks love it….sexiest bike ever

  14. Jordan Says:

I really dont see how you can “not buy a yamaha ever again” because the tach is off by a few percent. you own a gixxer 600? so do i. dyno marks the tach optimistic by 12% in 3 consecutive runs. The only reason its such a big deal is because yamaha made a big deal about it. Id love to say more, but im going to go RIDE my new R6, not complain to a pencil pusher about it!

  15. devon Says:

I was just woundering what it was like to have 2 people on the new R6? Anybody have a chick on the back yet? if so was it comfortable at all?

  16. SlaveMaster Says:

Ok I have owned a 2006 R6 Raven Edition for 3 months now and all i have to say is HOLY SHIT!!!, i went to the race track last week and in the quarter mile which i got a 11.39 i ate up a ZX-6r, 2005 R6, a GSX-R 600, and also a Triumph Daytona 675, i have not raced a CBR 600RR but my guess is i would smoke it too, above 10,000 rpm i swear i could pull on a GSX-R 750 and maybe even pass it, so to all you folks who like to down on this bike rethink what you say and possibley ride this bike before you jump to any conclusions!

P.S. my bike is completely stock :)

  17. Itialiaracer Says:

Alright all you new R6 owners! I have been racing on the Island of Sicily for three years now. I have raced many models to date. When I took the new R6 out stock, I was amazed at the power band on it. I took it around a 3.5k track twice to warm her up and feel her handeling. Then I pulled everything I could out of that 599cc motor. I could not beleive the superb handeling especially coming out of the turns wide open and shifting after the apex somtimes bringing the front tire up just from the power. This bike has a lot of power for its class. About that TAC issue, just to let everyone know if you really new your bike and the capability of it you never look at your guages and you always know the peak power range when you are ripping and slamming gears!!! So if you see an R6 and think you can take it you better be sure of it!!

  18. Ban Says:

yeah, it says 17.5 the waiver says 16.5. i dont care, tests show it tops out at 155 mph, i got mine to 167. check it out for yourself.

  19. Jake Says:

So its been 5 months since i’ve owned my Blue R6 and I don’t have one complaint. You can pull wheelies in 3rd gear on power alone. I ride with a 06 1000RR, 06 gsxr 750 and a 05 ZX636. My bike not only handles better than most of them, and in power, there are no complaints. I have beaten the 636 off the line and in the long run, I can even hang in there with the 1000RR and the 750 just barely beat me in the quarter mile. Oh yeah and my insurance is cheaper. Give me a break on the jackass who said he wouldn’t buy a Yamaha. Thats your loss bro and who cares. My bike turns more heads than any of the bikes a ride with. Well thats not entirely true. My brothers 06 R1 and the other 06 R6(yellow) gets alot of attention too. So shut up. Yamaha makes the hottest bikes and you know it. Bottom line, we buy bikes based on looks. Just helps when its the fastest in its class as well.

  20. sy Says:

What kind of bs is this with all the r6 talk. I ride an 07 gsxr 750 and i just sold my gsxr600. ON the track it’s all about skill so if everybody has a new gsxr6 rx 636 or whatever, the winner is usually the rider with the most skill. I’ll blow almost any r6 away with easy but that is because i have an unfair advantage of owning the beast, gsxr 750. I raced an 06 r6 on the street and the rider unfortunatly lost control and went into a death wobble and wrecked bad trying to keep up with me. We were only going about 120 too. Anyway, the point is, it is all about skill.

  21. BC Says:

I’m new to biking and bought a blue 06 R6. My friends all shut their mouth about saying ‘you’re gonna want a bigger bike’ after they took it for a spin. No complaints here. The power is great, killed my land speed record at about 150mph. I felt a little weak during the break in period with all the GSXR idiots trying to race… I’ll see ya’ll next summer.

  22. shawn charles Says:

well i am 12 and i dont own a bike but after reading wat u guys said the r6 will be my first bike

  23. Dean Letorney Says:

Having owned several sport bikes and working as a sales Mgr for a bike store that sells all the major Japanese brands I just purchased our last new 06 R6 as a second bike (to my 998s). Truth be told having ridden them all if I colud only own one bike it would be my Ducati 998s but as for only one bike under a $11K price tag this is it hands down. Have done time on all the 06 GSXR’s , Ninjas, and CBR’s it was a no brainer for me. But the one bit of advice I give all my customers that holds true for any new sport bike purchase if you don’t set the suspension and controls up for your height and weight then your bike can not be truley riden to it’s potential. Race on the track not the street and enjoy

  24. angry wasp Says:

    Sorry guys
The 06 r6 is a demon of a bike for you young dudes but has anyone set there peepers on the limited edition 06 zx636, very nice indeed and I also know they will run with the r6 quite comfortably in all areas.
I also agree the rider maketh the difference, and lets just say how interested would all you dudes be in the Yamaha if Honda didn’t let the great Valentino go.
    God bless

  25. PAUL Says:

HI I HAVE R6 BUT ITS WRECKED……..IF U HAVE PARTS EMAIL ME AT SHREVE180@AOL.COM……..LATER DUDES……..BESIDES IT BEING WRECKED I THINK THAT THE R6 IS A SMOOTH RIDE…….HELP I NEED PARTS

  26. Matt Says:

I have the 50th ann. Truely awesome handling, GREAT LOOKS. Set up the suspention right & enjoy. Mine dyno’d @111rwhp with 250 miles on it stock. I just added the Akra full exaust W/ Power com and racing filter but weather has kept me from testing results

  27. jhyler Says:

ive got the o-6 r6 50th anni. stock from the dealer its off by about 7% mph, ive redline at 17200, the power band is nuts that hight, you can feel that pig jump off beneath you choking it out, ive had it to 155 on the dash but like i said about 7% diff. it rode good, low vibration and seemed to scoot soon as i dropped low and ducked my grape,… the new r6 gets the looks and has the sack to keep up with a ton of bikes out there…

  28. Joey Says:

I have a 2006 R6 and i love it!!! it is one bad mutha (shut your mouth) YA dig. if you want a bike that has it all you need a yamaha R6.

  29. Travis Says:

I have to admit the R6 is a nice bike to look at…..but are you people serious about its power, i have a 2007 gsxr 750 and there isnt a R6 in town that comes close in power, and did someone say they whip by 1000’s lol!!! what parked ones! nice bike but talking it up way too much.

  30. Greg Says:

So nobody answered budies question about riding with a chick on the back. I’m looking at getting the R6 for a first bike… just want to know as much as I can… Is it easy to adjust the suspension? Or is there someone I should take it?

  31. Greg Says:

    *somewhere

  32. LEXR6 Says:

It’s all about personal preference. If you like the GSX-R’s cool. If you like the Yamaha’s cool. Quit throwing stones at the other brands like kids. Be proud of what you ride. Focus on becoming a better rider regardless of what you own. I ride an 06 R6 Raven and I think it’s the sickest looking bike on the street. It doesn’t have a whole bunch of stickers screaming please look at me. Jet black with a taste of well placed red pinstripes.

And the reason I got that bike?
1 Top end speed via MotoGp Technology
2 The sickest looking design of any 600’s. Just look at the headlights! The bike even looks like a demon! It should have been in Lord Of The Rings!

3 I stood back at the dealership and watched the reaction of every female that came in. They all went straight to the 06 R6 Raven. Nuff said…

    LEXR6

  33. Joe R6 Says:

So the advertisement is not exactly true… the bike is definitely awesome. Simply adjust your tach and change the current redline i have mine set to run up to 17,000

  34. Joe R6 Says:

As far as riding girls on the back its simple find a hot chick you don’t have to adjust the suspension for hahahahahhahaa

  35. burnz Says:

well me ive been through a 750 gsxr , 636 ninja , and am on an r6 now . never been on the race tracks but i got to say that lil r6 gits it . feels a lot better then th other 2 , my 1 complaint with the r6 is all the tank slappin . they need to fix that , till then i got a damper on the way . and to all who cares the bikes are all fast.

  36. ThatOtherGuy Says:

I agree with LexR6 all the way…. I bought my 06 R6 last year with 4000kms on the clock, the guy didnt want it anymore as he was looking to chill out… after running the motor in.
So I took it and havent regretted the day I did. Im an all round rider, rain or shine and my R6 has never let me down.
Not only is the R6 the best looking bike in the 600cc market (still) but its also (arguably by some) the top performer too. Sick looks, amazing accuracy in turns and great road holding ability.
When this bike was launched it was the turning point in biking, the Yamaha ‘06 R6 is the benchmark in bike designing and engineering.
This is a winner!! Keep it up Yamaha!! Much respect to all the R6 riders!!

A proud Raven ‘06 R6 owner from Cape Town, South Africa

  37. 05 7Fiftyq Says:

If you take two riders with similar resumes, and skills one riding a R6 and the other GSXR-750, doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out the 750 is going run over the R6 especially in a quarter mile run. Someone mentioned they ran a 11.39 thats not fast at all. I’ve seen 600’s running 10.8’s stock all comes down to skills in the end. But if both riders are equally skilled 750 is definitely killin the R6 in the quarter
