2006 Yamaha FJR1300 AE - electric shift

September 29th, 2005 at 9:16 am by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

2006 Yamaha FJR1300 AEThe big Yamaha FJR series has always been a very nice bike, lots of folks swear these are the best sport touring machines out there. This year, Yamaha has a nice high tech touch available on the FJR1300 AE model, electric shift five speed transmission, there’s no clutch lever. You shift with paddles on the left grip or with your left foot. I bet that would take a few minutes to get used to, I would probably keep grabbing for a clutch lever that wasn’t there.

This entire bike is really nice. There’s 145 hp, electric adjustable windscreen, ABS, 6.6 gallon tank, this is one very nice touring machine.

Bingo, and the company that makes the scooter people,-who number in the thousands overseas-comfortable on a large motorcycle due to familiarity with the controls will make a fortune with this.

Honda couldn’t be far behind with a similar approach to their 1300 ST model. This should prove interesting. Let’s get the two wheel community thinking together on this one!

Yamaha’s computer-controlled electronic clutch should be on the FZ-6 or similar daily-duty commuter bike used in stop-n-go traffic (rather than a highway touring model).

Everyone seems to forget there are many motorcycle riders that have disabilities that don’t allow them to ride manual bikes. I had a stroke that somewhat disabled my left side but with a automatic I’d be back on the road. I’m praying. Send me some info please.

I have the new FJR 1300 AE. I love the bike, due to major carpool tunnel in both my hands my bike ridding came to an end. Now I can ride all day long. I purchased a larger windscreen, KN airfilter, Power comander cumputer & Leo Vince exhaust. I can now jump on gas and easly pull the front tire off the ground. I could get it off before but now it is so easy and fun. You still can’t do burn outs but this saves on tire ware. The bike is so easy to ride in stop & go traffic and when it comes to racing it is so easy to shift and it can shift faster than I could with a clucth. I think Gold wing would be perfect for this type of auto clutch.

I have been riding BMW’s for the last 6-years. Yesterday I bought a new 06 FJR1300 AE with the new electronic shift. Look out BMW this FJR is a superior bike in my opinion overall. Fit and finish is awesome. The ride is smooth and controlled. The ride is smooth and enjoyable. The heat from the big 4 cylinder is there on my boots but not a big issue at this point. Good bye BMW hello Yamaha. Congratulations to the Yamaha factory for the production of this awsome ride. Have fun…………………….
