Electra Cruiser

This has apparently been out for quite a while but I just ran across it, it’s the Electra Cruiser or Electric Hog as it used to be known. Constructed by the Vogelbilt Corporation of Oak Beach, NY, it looks like a Harley that’s been completely refitted with 10 batteries, a 5 speed transmission, a 78hp electric motor and a belt drive system. It has a top speed of 80mph and a 0-60 of 6 to 8 seconds. No mention is made of range or recharge time. The web site says pricing is from $15,000 to $35,000, that’s quite a price range and I have no idea what you get at any price level, it doesn’t say. It’s an interesting bike and a neat example of garage engineering.

That’s actually an older version of the bike. The builder posted a message to the Electric Vehicle Discussion List (EVDL) a few weeks back about a new version. It escapes me what all he’s changing but it sure sounded good! I’ll see if I can still find the message.

Aha, here it is: Report #33: Team Profile: Carl Vogel.
Summary:
“This is my second bike. It went cross country with the TV series, formerly called EcoTrekker, now called the Cool
Fuel Road Trip that will air this September.” He isn’t sure which cable channel it will be on; possibly Discover or The Learning Channel.
How cool is that? Electric motorcycles on TV!?
