48 cylinder motorcycle engine

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on January 20, 2005

in Engines, Motorcycle Builders, Workshop & Tools

No sooner do I mention motorcycle engines up to 8 cylinders and someone points out a 12 cylinder made from two inline sixes. OK, today I come across this, this … oh heck I don’t know what this is. 48 cylinders! I would chalk this up to Photoshop but there’s a video on the website. [...]

Motorcycle sales up

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on January 20, 2005

in General

A story in USA Today covers the rising sales of motorcycles in the U.S. in 2004, the best year since 1979. Although total sales were up there has been some slowing toward year end and unsold inventories at Harley Davidson are up. The average age of buyers is also rising which may reflect the rising [...]

Hydrogen engines

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on January 20, 2005

in Alternative thinking, Engines, Science frontiers, Workshop & Tools

Yesterday’s post about engines led to a comment by Doug Staab who wondered what a hydrogen engine would sound like. Well, it might sound a lot like the engines we already run. Chilly weather

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on January 17, 2005

in General

I just mentioned four days ago that the temperature hit 70 degrees. Right now it’s in the low teens and heading for 0. I doubt I’ll be seeing any bikes out in the next day or so.

Tail of the Dragon - Deal’s Gap

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on January 17, 2005

in General

If you think helmet cameras are neat, one of the best places in the eastern U.S. to have one along is Deal’s Gap. Eleven miles and 318 curves. Haven’t made that trip yet but it’s on my list.

Helmet cameras

by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider" on January 17, 2005

in Motorcycle Accessories

We’ve all seen the video feeds during a race where the horizon is tilting left and right and we fly by the other bike and then see his front wheel nose up next to us, … makes for an exciting ride. Or maybe there’s the dirt rider hitting a triple and the ground falls away. [...]
